The Global Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) introduces a uniform global labeling of chemicals. Within the European Union, this system is implemented by Regulation 1272/2009 / EU. In the European Union, the term CLP (Classification, Laboratory, Packaging) is also used.
The GHS introduces a new system for the identification of hazardous substances. That is, On the labels and safety data sheets the previous black pictograms with black frame on orange ground are replaced by black pictograms with red frame on a white background. The new pictograms are on the corner. Some pictograms are abolished, others are added. Changes in the classification of certain chemicals may also occur. The R- and S-sentences for the closer characterization of a hazardous substance are replaced by H- and P-sentences.
